In 1947 the distinguished novelist, Eric Linklater, acquired the house. During his residence he wrote many of his most famous books including "Private Angelo", "The Prince in the Heather", and "Poet’s Pub". The house has more latterly been in corporate ownership as a private entertaining facility and guesthouse. HRH Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip visited Pitcalzean House in 1974. It has been significantly upgraded by the present owners and provides a property of distinction and great comfort.

To the front of the house is a formal terraced lawn interspersed with trees and colourful bulbs. The surrounding grounds are generally wooded and include a wide variety of mature hardwoods including birch, beech, oak and lime underplanted with a lovely display of bulbs and interspersed with rhododendrons.

For children there are tyre swings available on the trees around the house, also outside we have a trampoline and inside for the rainy days there is a playroom available with toys and books for all ages.
