Not enough space in the guest book to express our thanks for the 'extra mile' gone on our behalf for our wedding,
Hi Fiona, just wanted to say a massive thanks again for the hire of Pitcalzean House for our wedding on 17th June in Nigg. We had lots of friends from Edinburgh and Aberdeen come up for the wedding and enjoyed a lovely weekend with you in Lynsey's home village. The house, the grounds and just the general atmosphere at Pitcalzean made it a weekend that we'll never forget. We've had so many people say what a special place it is and how it really made the weekend. Thanks again for your help with everything- you were great from start to finish. We will be sure to recommend this beautiful venue to friends that want to come up and explore this amazing part of the Highlands. Many thanks again Scott and Lynsey xx
Everyone had such a fantastic time in Pitcalzean House. The kids were running riot all over the grounds and the adults were able to find sanctuary in one of the many cosy rooms
I had booked this beautiful Manor House for my birthday celebrations with my family and my friends.
Everyone was amazed by the splendour of the rooms and the comfort that they provided.
The grounds were fantastic too and well kept. The barbecue hut was excellent and very cosy.
22 adults and teenagers and 7 young children shared a family week in Pitcalzean House in August, and it was wonderful.
A brilliant place to have a family reunion such as ours.
Pitcalzean is a beautiful house in a stunning location. For our family gathering it was absolutely perfect; we had 25 people of varying ages and it was ideal for everyone.
Fantastic weekend... training leaders from all over Ross-shire
A truly wonderful house party of friends whose families have been friends for generations and great fun to see the start of the next generation all partying together. Brilliant house, we'll all be back.
50th Celebration, filling the house to the last bed. A wonderful week in every aspect.
A great week in a beautiful house.
I wanted to thank you for providing us with a fantastic house in a perfect location for what was a memorable 40th birthday for all involved. Pitcalzean house will easily stay with all of us for the rest of our lives, the perfect setting for our murder mystery event with charm and intrigue in every room. The house really did cater for all from cricket & afternoon tea to murder in the billiard room whilst Nana watched from her sun drenched window seat in one of the many beautiful bedrooms. The whole experience from start to finish was really magical and this would not have been possible without Pitcalzean house and yourself. I thank you for all the contacts you provided, they could not have been more helpful. You have 24 new fans which would all love to return one day, probably without the treasure hunt though.
This fun trip started out as a treasure hunt from Edinburgh to find Pitcalzean House......
Pitcalzean House proved to be an ideal holiday venue for a week with our family of 14 grandchildren & 4 sets of parents to celebrate our 50th wedding anniversary.
Pitcalzean (pronounced three different ways even by locals but most commonly the phonetic form was used) provided a comfortable, beautifully appointed and well maintained base for us. Giant wood burning stoves AND central heating kept us cosy and rooms varying from baronial to plain and simple, accommodated us very comfortably. Development work is on-going there and the adjoining barn, already a venue for ceilidhs for house guests, would be available another time and provide us with a good communal gathering space, especially in poor weather.
but I think particular mention should go to Pitcalzean House - as that concentration of everyone in one place helped the group form quickly; and allowed ideas to blossom and bounce around, giving everyone the opportunity to run with them or alter them to suit their desired projects. The fact there were 16 performances is testament to how energetically creative the group became, due in no small measure to the absolute suitability of the accommodation. An inspired choice!
A lovely, large house in wonderful grounds. It is an excellent place to stay, with lots of different, comfortable rooms, offering space for everyone. The children loved the freedom of the extensive grounds, where they could play happily and safely. A very well equipped kitchen, with lots of utensils, crockery, cutlery and glassware to cater for all occasions. The large dining room, with its lovely furniture, provided a beautiful setting for guests to wine and dine in style. Whilst in a peaceful and private setting, there is easy access to the A9, for those wishing to explore all that the area has to offer. The owner was extremely friendly, efficient and helpful with all our planning, thus ensuring our family reunion was a great success. A superb venue for a large gathering - we hope to return.
We were looking for a venue to celebrate our respective 70th and 75th birthdays. As a family of descendants of Surgeon Major William Brydon, the sole survivor of the massacre of Jellalabad, Britain's first disastrous foray into Afghanistan, we were in the midst of reading two recent books on the subject, John Cunningham's "The Last Man" and William Dalrymple's "Return of a King", we idly 'googled' Pitcalzean House, the home to which the Brydons retired after leaving India. To our surprise and delight, it was available for holiday rent and so, an idea was born. The owners, the Fillers could not have been more helpful. Fiona was full of advice, not only regarding the house but also putting us in touch with an excellent chef to cater for some of the meals and a brilliant trio who organised a Ceilidh. For a gathering of a very widespread family (France, New Zealand, Hong Kong, Oman and even England) it was the perfect venue, comfortable ,extensive and with plenty of room and activities inside and out for all ages. Not only the property but the whole region is charming and, for us, full of family history. We cannot recommend it more highly for such a gathering. Indeed our children, having been recent devotees of Downton Abbey, adapted to the lifestyle and decided to offer the company afternoon tea in the library on a daily basis, with silver service and wonderful cakes. We rather liked it! One small grand daughter offered to buy the house forever!
My children booked Pitcalzean to celebrate my birthday. Without doubt it was the best holiday ever. The house is well equipped and we wanted for nothing. The setting is divine. We shall return.
All our guests loved their stay, from the six year old to the eighty year old - so much to see and do in the area. Such a beautiful house in an idyllic setting (and the weather was fantastic). A wonderful weekend for young and old.
We'd all highly recommend Pitcalzean - an ideal location for a special event.
Thank you again for the opportunity to celebrate my 50th birthday in such an amazingly grand setting. Everyone (32 for the big party night!!) who came along absolutely fell in love with Pitcalzean
I stayed at Pitcalzean House for a week for my grandmothers 80th Birthday Celebrations in July 2011!! It was a magical week! The house and grounds are absolutely beautiful. It will be a week I will never forget and I hope I have a chance to visit Pitcalzean again in the future. Thanks for everything!!
From the second we drove up the private road to the house, to the second we drove down on leaving, we enjoyed ourselves more on this holiday than any other. Seeing the two roe deer bucks in the gardens on the first day, and almost every day after, was a thrill, as were the buzzards, the dolphins in the firth, at the end of the lane from the house - idyllic, wonderful, spectacular, we loved it is the best way to say it.
Besides ensuring we had all we required, Fiona gave us suggestions of entertainment to be had locally i.e. we had a storyteller, clay pigeon shooting, piper and Scottish dancers which all turned out to be excellent.
The recommendation of Mrs Brigitte Eley to do the catering for the week was a master stroke as all our guests enjoyed her cooking so much.
What a lovely house to celebrate a 50th birthday in. The 11 children were not to be seen except at meal times, so much for them to do any many rooms to hide from parents! So the adults could enjoy the grounds, house and banter.
Fiona helped to organise the celebrations and nothing was too much trouble. You must have a Ceildh if you stay there!
Well located for exploring the area whatever your interests. We thoroughly recommend this property.
The house was brilliant, some parts were kind of spooky and some were very nice. There was 22 of us that went and it was such a laugh I would recommend this house to everyone!
As a party of 23 children aged 7 - 50 we had a brilliant week here. The house and grounds are great, plenty of room to come together (or stay apart), and the surrounding area is a joy to explore by foot and car. The Aga range in the kitchen was a great attraction both for afternoon coffee and evening G&T.
We were six families with a range of expectations, and all were met, from those who were out all day sightseeing and birdwatching to couch potatoes who rarely left the house.
The grounds probably need a special mention with a zip wire and tree house for kids (of all ages) and a lawn perfect for croquet (supplied). Just what the doctor ordered.
What a fabulous place! We were married here at the end of last year. We all had an absolute ball and wanted for nothing. Everything you could possibly want or need is provided for by the amazing Fiona who truly has thought of everything! It was a winter wonderland when we were there, the house was lovely and warm.
What a treat greeted us.... warm cosy log burners and lovely plumped sofas ripe for sinking into. The icing on the cake, however, was the Chef and catering staff that Fiona organised for us for my husband's "Birthday dinner". Chef, Alexander Kidd and his team were absolutely outstanding.
It's difficult to know where to start! We had our wedding at Pitcalzean and it was the most memorable & incredible place to have it.
