Nigg Sutor

Nigg Ferry over the impressive cliffs forming one half of the gateway to the Cromarty Firth. There are good views of Cromarty and the chance to spot dolphins in the sea below.

Bishops Walk Nigg

The Bishop’s Walk leads from the Nigg Old Church to the shore and was the walkway used by the Bishop in the 1500s. A 15 minute walk from Pitcalzean House to Nigg Old Church and the entrance to the Bishops Walk.

Dornoch Point

An excellent, and often breezy, coastal walk with good opportunities to spot sea birds, seals and many different shells. From the Point there are good views up the Dornoch Firth to the mountains beyond.

Littleferry and Loch Fleet

This walk explores the eastern part of the Loch Fleet National Nature Reserve. It has fine views, a spacious sandy beach, Scots pine woodland and great opportunities for bird-watching.

Badvoon Forest circuit, near Ardgay

This lonely circuit to the south of Ardgay heads through both forestry and across boggy heather. The walk is well off the beaten track and offers views over the Dornoch Firth.

Gunns Wood, Lairg

A short walk through natural woodland and plantation, with some limited views over Loch Shin. Can easily be walked from the centre of Lairg.

Helmsdale Circuit

This circuit makes a very varied exploration of the environs of Helmsdale, taking in the harbour, a short coastal walk, a climb across the hillside overlooking the village, and finally a riverside stroll.

Falls of Shin

The Falls of Shin is one of the best known sights in the area. Although not particularly high the falls have great power, and salmon can often be seen attempting to pass up the falls in the summer. This walk combines a visit to the falls with two short waymarked loops to make a short walk.

Loch Fleet and Balblair Wood

A beautiful exploration of Loch Fleet National Nature Reserve, a haven for birds, deer and pine martens. This circular walk takes in the shoreline which has good mountain views and the scots pine and mixed woodland.

Cromarty Ferry

Running from May to the end of September including Sundays, the service operates from 8:00 am to 6:15 pm, and until 7:15 pm in July and August, Monday to Saturday, and from 9:00 am on Sundays.
The ferry leaves Cromarty on the hour and half-hour, and leaves Nigg at quarter to and quarter past the hour.
