Wildlife

Nigg Bay (RSPB)
An extensive area of mudflat, saltmarsh and wet grassland on the north of the Cromarty Firth. Large numbers of bar-tailed godwits, wigeon, knots and pink-footed geese use the bay for feeding and roosting in winter. This is a natural site with unimproved paths and trails - the access around this site may not be suitable for all visitors. If you have concerns, please contact the reserve or regional office before your visit to discuss your requirements.

Loch Fleet National Nature Reserve (SNH)
This shallow tidal estuary of the River Fleet offers great wildlife viewing opportunities. Waders and duck feed out on the mud at low tide and eider duck dive for mussels.

In summer arctic and common terns fish the shallows and ospreys are seen regularly. In winter large numbers of wigeon graze the eelgrass on the tidal flats. There is a good footpath through the pinewood on the north shore. Here you may see Scottish crossbill, crested tit and red squirrel.

Ecoventures
Take an exhilarating boat trip to view the best of what the Moray Firth has to offer. After a short introduction, board the high speed RIB heading out into the Inner Moray Firth where one can encounter the resident colony of Bottlenose Dolphins. Also look out for Harbour Porpoise, Common and Grey Seals and the occasional Minke Whale.

Black Isle Wildlife & Country Park
If you are interested in animals and birds or just countryside, you will enjoy a visit to this quiet corner of the Black Isle, an ideal place for all the family. Come and feed the friendly ducks, geese and swans on the many ponds. Make contact with our friendly goats and stroke the cuddly rabbits. See the pot-bellied pigs, rare sheep and cattle.

How To Get Here

Pitcalzean House. Location of large self-catering property

I wanted to thank you for providing us with a fantastic house in a perfect location for what was a memorable 40th birthday for all involved. Pitcalzean house will easily stay with all of us for the rest of our lives, the perfect setting for our murder mystery event with charm and intrigue in every room. The house really did cater for all from cricket & afternoon tea to murder in the billiard room whilst Nana watched from her sun drenched window seat in one of the many beautiful bedrooms. The whole experience from start to finish was really magical and this would not have been possible without Pitcalzean house and yourself. I thank you for all the contacts you provided, they could not have been more helpful. You have 24 new fans which would all love to return one day, probably without the treasure hunt though. This fun trip started out as a treasure hunt from Edinburgh to find Pitcalzean House.........
